Food Manufacturing - a large pan-European food supplier

Our client is a major manufacturer of cooked meats for a leading high street retailer. Once a year they produce a series of seasonal Christmas lines that dictate volumes far in excess of the rest of the trading year. This calls for careful manpower planning to ensure customer volumes is met and the rigorous quality standards dictated by the client are maintained.

Three years ago they approached us with the concept of managing this peak in production. It was not cost effective for the client to recruit up to 100 people quickly, induct and train them, whilst maintaining quality output of their other products.

We were able to put together a package that solved all of our client's immediate problems. We are able to draw large numbers of people with a food and beverage handling background from the local labour market. This was facilitated by a "clustering" approach - targeting other food companies with seasonal peaks slightly earlier than our client. Thus we are able to facilitate large numbers of people moving from one food environment to the next.

Kinetic worked in partnership with the client to design an induction to the companies policies, procedures and working practices allied to Catersafe Food Handling Training. For each worker a training record was retained on file before they even set foot in the factory. This contained all documentation pertaining to the client as well as medical results, Food Handling Qualifications and manual handling training records. We arranged for each worker to have an ID page complete with photograph.

Once workers started on site we managed all numbers and allowed the client to flex with demand. Output of core products was maintained during the seasonal business peak. Three years on all business peaks, seasonal as well as non-seasonal, are managed by us. Because we operate 24 Hours we are able to assist with rush orders, rework projects and unexpected levels of demand.

As the workers are inducted, trained and familiar with a food-handling environment they can be integrated seamlessly into our client's existing workforce with a minimum of disruption. This has had a significant impact on our client's relationship with their customer.
